FRHP2010 buttonEVENTS

NEWP hosts a varriety of events each year. Some are focused on skill development for NEWP members and students; others are designed for general public participation with less technical challenge and greater social interaction. Click on EVENTS above or HERE for more information.

CLASSES

Information on NEWP classes is published annually by our partner organizations, who provide classroom and pool facilities for our classes. Click the CLASSES link above for more detail. We offer two types of classes from January through April each year:

  • Kayak Essentials - This is a four week class for people who have not had prior kayak skills instruction. Each session meets for three hours, split between classroom and pool. The focus of the class is on skill development and safety. A printable outline of the course is available HERE .
  •  Rolls and Rescues - This three week class follows the same format as the Kayak Essentials class, again using NEWP whitewater and sea kayaks with associated gear. Participants in this class must first complete the Kayak Essentials class or have equivalent training approved by the instructor. The focus of this class is to teach participants a variety of boat re-entry or rescue techniques and Eskimo roll skills. A printable outline of hte course is available HERE .

NEWP whitewater kayaks, sea kayaks and associated gear is provided for all participants. Click on the class locations listed on this page for more specific information on each site, including open pool demos scheduled at each host location!

WORKSHOPS

NEWP Instructors offer on-water workshops throughout the paddle season, in addition to the "off-season" classes and special events hosted by the club. These workshops vary from year to year, based on participant interest and instructor availability. Information on past and upcoming workshops is available HERE.

INFORMAL GROUP PADDLES

In addition to formal NEWP classes and events, several groups of paddlers around northeast Wisconsin enjoy social paddles on a weekly basis. Here are a list of some that we were aware of in the 2009 paddle season and believe will continue in the 2010 season. Please contact us with corrections or if you are aware of others that you would like listed here!

The times shown here are launch times so please be sure to arrive early enough to unload and be prepared to paddle on time. These paddles tend to extend through the paddle season, which is entirely weather dependent. Again, we depend on you to let us know of any errors or changes in this information!
