2020 Annual Meeting

NEWP’s 2020 annual meeting returns to Legends in De Pere on the last Saturday in January. We will share stories of our 2019 activity and plans for 2020, conduct our annual business meeting and elect our 2020 board of directors. Dinner music will be provided by Lyn and Don Denny performing as “True Story.”

Our 2020 feature speaker will be Henry Davies. Henry has been paddling nearly all his life, including multi-day trips in Pukaskwa, Isle Royale, Lake Michigan Archipelago, the Keweenaw Peninsula and the “Grand Traverse” between the UP of Michigan and Door County Wisconsin.

Henry is currently a sea kayak guide in the Pictured Rocks, an ACA Coastal Kayak instructor, and has been teaching for over a decade.  Many of our NEWP members have also enjoyed Henry’s company – and numerous Eskimo roll demonstrations – at the Door County Sea Kayak Symposium in Rowley’s Bay for many years. Clearly, Henry’s passion is paddling, teaching and playing using a Greenland Paddle.

Henry’s presentation is titled “Exploring Michipicoten Island by way of the Superior Highlands and Pukaskwa Coast.” Here is his description:

“In August 2013, three kayakers paddled along the Pukaskwa Coast and Canadian crown land from Hattie Cove, in Pukaskwa National Park, to the mouth of the Michipicoten River. Along the way we were awed by the varied rocks, tall cliffs and waterfalls and, off in the distance, another landform. As the days passed it got bigger, but we didn’t seem to get closer. It took us a few days to realize that we were seeing Michipicoten Island, the second largest island in Lake Superior. We hadn’t even finished the current trip and already knew that we had to go see that island some day. That day finally came in August 2019 with the same three paddlers.”
