2020 Paddler Workshop & Gear Swap

Saturday TBD, 2020 - 10 AM to 3 PM

Update - Like everything else on your calendar for the next few weeks, our gear swap will be postponed. The Bar is more than willing to work with us on a new date, and we are committed to hosting the event as soon as things settle down a bit. In the meantime, keep a list of the things you need and of the things you hope are on somebody else's list. There will still be plenty of great paddle days to enjoy in 2020!

New venue for 2020! Same format as in the past - boats and assorted outdoor gear to buy and sell, interesting paddle topics/ presentations to listen to and plenty of time to plan this year's outings with your old (and new) paddle buddies.

Have extra outdoor gear or an extra boat? Need a new (to you) boat, paddling gear or equipment? Bring your spare gear, extra boats and wish list! Standard gear swap format - we'll provide a space and (some) tables for the gear you wish to sell - you set the price and make the deal! (Please bring a lawn chair to sit in, and If you have a folding table available, please bring it for extra gear space.)

We are also welcoming a regional Current Designs rep who will bring a trailer full of used/ demo kayaks to the swap, and Big Agnes camping gear. More details to come...

Paddling Presentation Topics

10:30 AM: Kayak Camping the Upper Midwest: Are you a kayaker? Do you like to camp? Why not combine these two great outdoor activities? This presentation will discuss where to go, what to bring, and how to keep it dry.

Ken Braband

11:30 AM: Kayak Fishing with Bonnie! Fishing from sit-on-top kayaks is awesome! Learn more about the right equipment to take, protective clothing to wear, how to fish from a kayak and yes, where to fish, too!

 Bonnie Guokas

12:30 PM: How am I going to get that thing on top of my car - and keep it there? Learn the tricks and tips for safely loading and transporting your boat on your car from an expert who has never lost a boat he really liked!

  Bill Merrick

1:30 PM: NEWP's 2020 Public Paddle Events and 1st Annual Club Getaway Weekend. Get the lowdown on this year's public paddle events, upcoming classes, club events and other paddling opportunities in NE Wisconsin. (Be sure to bring your suggestions for future club paddles and events!)

For those that cannot participate in our annual swap event, we heartily recommend use of http://www.craigslist.com and http://www.paddling.net/ for boat and gear exchange!

Who is invited? This event is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC - anybody who wants to attend is welcome!

Where? The Bar on Lynndale at 2435 W Nordale Dr #1820, Appleton, WI 54914

When? 10 AM to 3 PM; 9:30 AM setup for sellers. Some tables and chairs available; first come-first serve. Bring a folding table and chairs if you have them. We will be using the deck area and the sand volleyball court sand surface.

What? Sure, we're a paddle club, but the gear swap has become popular for non-paddle related outdoor gear, as well. So bring your tents, sleeping bags, and other spare outdoor gear.

Is there a fee? No! Door prize registration for drawings through the day! (Must be present to win)

Is lunch available? Absolutely! The Bar serves great food and refreshments!

Format? Open and casual - bring your boats and gear inside for sale or swap.

Expectations? This is our 9th paddle gear swap to exchange or purchase gear, learn some skills, and meet other paddlers! As an indoor event, we are "weather-proof." 150 participants in 2019, with a great selection of boats available for swap or purchase.

Sampling of Boats Offered for Sale

One of the thrills of swap meets is not knowing what to expect until you show up! BUT - sometimes it's nice to know what to expect, so if you are hoping to sell a boat or other paddling equipment let us know, and we will add it to the list below.
