Kimberly Out-and-Back Paddle - Sept. 28
Due to excessive flows on the Fox River, our NEW ROUTE will be to launch at Sunset Park in Kimberly, paddle upstream to Telulah Park for a break and then paddle back to Sunset Park. Unfortunately, we won't be able to experience the locks because, at the near-record flow rates, the draw from the dams presents too much of a threat. NEWP will not require our usual $10 fee for this paddle, but contributions would be appreciated, Weather has already put us at a loss for the season. Participants still must register for insurance reasons. Go to USGS site
- Please let us know! Use the link above to let us know we still should count you in. It helps us plan but doesn't commit you to the trip. You will register and pay your $10 per person at the launch (under 16 free with an adult).
- Make registration go faster. Fill out this online fillable form for the ACA Adult Waiver or ACA Minor Waiver in advance and bring it to the landing. This is a good time to become a member of NEWP for $10 per year plus $25 for ACA (American Canoe Association) membership.
At a Glance -- Plan has changed!
Arrive: We will LAUNCH FROM SUNSET PARK IN KIMBERLY instead of Lutz Park, as previously planned. Near-record flow in the Fox River has made conditions unsafe for novice paddlers. Join us beginning at 8 a.m. at Sunset Park in Kimberly. Unload your boats and gear and fill out or turn in your registration. No shuttle is necessary.
Launch: 9:30 a.m., Sunset Park, Appleton. Restrooms available. Rest stop at Telulah Park, restrooms available.
Land: Sunset Park, Kimberly.
Challenges: We will be paddling upstream into a strong flow for the first half of the paddle.
For the safety of all, ACA rules require you must wear your PFD (lifejacket) AT ALL TIMES when on the water and no alcohol during paddles, Bring water, sunscreen and select a paddle buddy.
What if there's weather?
We will paddle in rain, but will immediately get off the water if there is lightning. Check here at our webpage or on our Facebook page if the weather threatens to cancel the event. If you have pre-registered, check your email for updates.
The closest campground is High Cliff State Park.
