Park-to-Park Paddle - July 20
The granddaddy of our series, the 19th annual Park-to-Park, will give participants a taste of river paddling and the open water of a small section of Lake Winnebago. The Lower Fox displays some of the area's most dramatic houses on the way to the landing at Lutz Park and birders are often rewarded with an eagle sighting.
Odds are the Menasha Lock will still be closed and odds are the stagnant navigation canal will once again be choked with smelly algae. That's why we're planning to take last year's alternate route again along the Lawson Canal. We will get out under the Racine Street Bridge, where vehicles with trailers will be waiting to shuttle your boats about one-fourth mile to a put-in on the other side of the Menasha dam. The portage is about a quarter-mile, but participants won’t have to carry their boats that full distance. North East Wisconsin Paddlers club trailers will haul the canoes and kayaks most of the way and volunteers from the Menasha High School soccer team will be available to carry them the rest of the way. Tips are encouraged to support the soccer program.
